Gymea Community Aid & Information Service Inc. (GCAIS) is a dynamic community force in bringing self-reliance, dignity, and well-being to people’s lives.
For more than 40 years we have offered person-centred services and support to residents of Gymea and the Sutherland Shire, celebrating inclusiveness, independence and participation in community life.
Community Connections
Enjoy a great range of social activities, special interest groups, and outings when you join our Community Connections program. Regular activities include gentle exercise, men’s groups, guitar playing, knitting circles, discussion groups and crafts. Our friendly staff and volunteers can also help you with shopping trips, getting to appointments, social connection at home, and community transport. Domestic assistance is also now available to clients registered with MYAGEDCARE.
Multicultural Services
We’re all about wellbeing, independence and connecting people. Options include our multicultural seniors’ activity club (anybody from anywhere is welcome!), social groups for Thai and Chinese mums, and a vibrant program of activities for people from many non-English-speaking backgrounds. We also offer English and computer classes, and information sessions on a range of topics.
Gymea Community Centre
Our centre is open from 9.30am to 4pm Mondays to Friday. We offer a wide range of community information resources, books for sale, diabetic needle disposal and meeting rooms for hire.
Volunteers are also warmly welcome to assist with admin tasks, services and our front office.
Migrant & Settlement Services
Our dedicated staff and volunteers are proud to welcome and support migrants, refugees and humanitarian entrants living in Sutherland Shire. Our services include English classes, tutoring and educational support, information sessions, referrals, immigration advice, employment support, and our Drivetime program for learner drivers. We celebrate diversity and invite you to join our many cultural events.
Donate
Your donation will help to enrich the lives of older people, migrants and refugees in our community, contributing to a shared sense of social connection, well-being, self-reliance and independence.
