Mission

Gymea Community Aid and Information Service reduces social isolation and celebrates diversity.  

 

Objectives

  1. To provide an information, referral and advisory service to residents with the aim of relieving the effects of alienation by identifying personal contacts, community organisations and focal points of friendship within the Gymea and surrounding districts.
  2. To facilitate community development and the establishment of services to alleviate hardship or need.
  3. To assist and relieve poverty, distress, suffering, destitution, misfortune, loneliness, helplessness and personal need (as part of its not for profit – charity role).
  4. To give emergency aid and assistance to the residents of the Gymea district.

 To provide a general community service accessible to all people within the Gymea and surrounding districts. 

 

Accountabilities:   

Gymea Community Aid and Information Service Inc. is a community based organisation, incorporated under the (NSW) Association’s Incorporations Act (1984) and is a charitable organisation with an authority to fundraise under the Gaming and Racing Legislation for Charitable Groups (NSW) AND a Deductible Gift Recipient with the Australian Taxation Office (Commonwealth). 

It is a not-for profit organisation. This means that the organisation may indeed make a profit (fundraise and put money away in an account, earmarked for specific projects, services, etc) but IT CANNOT distribute that profit amongst its members. 

Its management committee is chosen from amongst its membership, annually, thus this committee is accountable to GCAIS organisational members (as per its constitution). 

It is accountable to the Department of Fair Trading, through its incorporation under the Associations Incorporations Act, administered by government departments. 

It is accountable to clients (actual and potential) for the service that it provides. 

Staff are directly accountable to Management, who are their employers.

They are accountable to

      a. Clients (current and potential) and

      b. Other service providers with whom they work.

      c. They are also accountable for the implementation of the programs under which they are funded, according to the plans approved by the funding body. 

 

Volunteer workers are accountable to staff, who supervise them. They may also be members of the Association in which case they are also accountable to the Association through its constitution.
